Rachel & Matt – Engagement Session

By | Engagements | No Comments

Not long before Rachel and Matt’s engagement session we had some pretty strong rain. I was so worried that we were going to have to reschedule. Normally rescheduling something one time happens, but in their case we already planned on doing their engagement photos but had to reschedule due to COVID and we had also rescheduled their wedding day. We definitely needed to get these photos done! So the storms thankfully cleared just in time for a great walk around Fairmount Park and the Art Museum, and for a perfect sunset on their friends’ rooftop deck. I loved the laid-back style of their engagement session and taking the time to really find some great locations. Wedding days don’t always provide enough time to really walk around explore. Rachel and Matt were also able to score some ice cream from Mr. Softee which made for some really cheesy yet adorable photos. I’m so excited for their September wedding and hopefully by then I’ll be able to understand Matt’s sarcasm 🙂

NJ Engagement Session – Kristin and Megan

By | Engagements | No Comments

Photographing Megan and Kristin’s NJ engagement session was one of the most fun sessions I ever had at a session! We struggled with thinking of exactly what to do for their session and when that happens I always recommend that we just imitate a typical day or favorite thing to do. In this case, bowling and breweries! We spent the afternoon bowling at Pinsetter’s then enjoying a few beers at the nearby Double Nickel Brewery. I truly felt like I was just hanging out with friends and had to keep reminding myself to take pictures and document the day! Their session was the last thing I photographed before quarantine which means I am officially 100% caught up on my blog. I spaced apart sharing my sessions because I wasn’t sure how long it would be until I photographed something new. I am pretty excited to say that starting next weekend I will finally be back out in the world, doing what I love – which is getting to know the amazing couples that chose me to photograph their engagements and weddings. And no offense to all of my other couples, but you have a lot to live up to after Megan & Kristin’s session! And can we all just cross our fingers that their wedding this fall (which is sure to be pretty incredible), and the many others that are scheduled, are not affected by the coronavirus and we can all go back to our normal lives? Ok thanks 🙂

Longwood Gardens Engagement

By | Engagements | No Comments

I am so excited to finally share Patrice and Rob’s Longwood Gardens engagement session. After speaking with the future Mr. and Mrs. and planning their engagement session, they mentioned how they did not want photos in the city. I jokingly asked what it was that even attracted them to my work considering I love  working in Philadelphia! I knew Longwood Gardens would be a great option for their photos since the scenery is beautiful and there aren’t too many places that work for engagement photos in the winter. We lucked out with a gorgeous day although honestly, this winter was so mild that snow was never a real threat. I thought there session was a great start to my 2020 wedding and engagement season but we all know how that ended up, and their session instead was only one of two engagement sessions I was able to do so far this year. I am really looking forward to their August wedding at Belle Voir Manor and I’m praying that everything continues without any complications!

DIY Engagement Photo Tips

By | Engagements | No Comments

Hey there happy couples! I love that so many of you are moving forward with your wedding plans for later this year and in 2021, even if it means zoom meetings and virtual venue tours. What is also happening right now is that many couples are trying to get their save the dates out the door, even if it means that they have to take a few photos themselves. So, for those of you attempting to do this on your own, here are a few DIY engagement photo tips. But here is a little disclaimer – I 100% believe that working with a professional is the way to go. In different circumstances I would not be offering these tips because having your engagement photos done professionally provides a world of difference in your photos. However, since we’re all distancing ourselves from each other, here a few tips to help you get some of the best results for your DIY engagement photos.

DIY engagement photo tip for couples during their photos during the coronavirus pandemic.

  1. It’s likely that you do not have a tripod or something tall enough to get the perfect angle, so cut yourself some slack here. Try to prop your phone or camera on something so that you aren’t photographing up your nose if you can, but otherwise, just change up your posing.

2. Keep your poses simple. You only have a few seconds to get in the frame before the self timer goes off so don’t try anything complicated.

3. Use the easiest light possible. Don’t go out in harsh sunlight – instead, time your DIY engagement photo session for closer to sunset, about an hour before. And don’t bother trying to capture a beautiful sunset behind you. Just find some good, even, soft light to work with.

4. When posing, make sure you’re doing something with your hands. Grooms can keep their hands in their pockets and brides you can show some leg, hook an arm, etc. These are all very easy things to do. Also, look at each other Crack some jokes about the situation and get each other laughing!

5. Do your research about locations first! Photographing certain locations is off limits already but now even more might be closed down. Be respectful and make sure you’re following all of the rules!

6. Have fun!! Do some dancing and twirls and see what you can capture! Just because someone isn’t directing you doesn’t mean you can’t play a little.

Now go out and fill those cell phones with some hilarious outtakes and a few gems! And don’t be afraid to choose an outtake for your save the dates! Sometimes those end up being the best photos.

Philly Engagement Session

By | Engagements | No Comments

Well I did mention a few weeks ago that I was determined to get caught up on all of my blog posts from 2019 so I guess now is a good time to actually do that! It’s only day 3 of our technical quarantine and I’ve had crazy ranges of emotion going from fear to excitement to depression and anxiety. Let me clarify that the excitement came from a part of me where I enjoy a challenge and looking on the bright side. I thought that home-schooling my kids and involving them in a more simple life would be awesome. Today was a little stressful as I tried to work and entertain my kids. When dinner finally hit I had a bad headache and was just completely exhausted. But then the evening got more simple and I felt better about this whole situation. Sitting down to work on this business of mine which I love so very much, is actually great therapy. I have worked so hard to get where I am and I will not let this get in the way of working hard for my couples and any future couples that book me as their photographer.

Anyhow, now that I’m off my soapbox – let’s talk about how awesome Jamie and Matson are! Oh – and we can’t forget Phoebe, their dog! We had a really great time with their Philly engagement session even though it was one of the coldest days we had all winter! We started at City Hall and then wandered around the area including the Comcast Center, Dilworth Park, and Broad Street. Jamie and Matson are getting married this fall at the Knowlton Mansion in northeast Philadelphia which is not far from my childhood home! I always loved the mansion and I’m so excited to photograph not one, but two weddings there in 2020! The future Mr. and Mrs. are super down-to-earth and a joy to be around! Also Jamie does crossfit like a fiend and is amazing, FYI. I am SO excited to photograph their wedding – even more so now that I have an unexpected slow season now 🙂

Central Park Engagement Session

By | Engagements | No Comments

I’m so excited to finally getting around to sharing Ashley and Jeff’s Central Park engagement session from this past December! The timing of the session worked out perfectly. I had a trip to New York City planned with my family for the weekend to enjoy some of the Christmas activities. Ashley and Jeff were hoping to do their session in New York City so with some cooperation from my amazing husband, the date was set! We decided on a sunrise session so that we could avoid as many crowds as possible since this is New York City, and it was the weekend before Christmas! I learned that weekend that the farther you are from Rockefeller Center the better, so we were in a great spot! We were prepared for a really cold morning but it was actually not so bad and we really enjoyed strolling, and getting lost in Central Park! Not only was the session itself just wonderful but Ashley and Jeff are equally as amazing! We had so much fun trying to read maps, stay warm and befriend all of the dogs in Central Park! I’m really looking forward to their Cafe Madison wedding this year!

New Hope Engagement Session

By | Engagements | No Comments

There is no better way to start an engagement session than with a good drink to loosen up the nerves! Although I’m pretty sure that Jenn and Chris would have had just as good a time even if they didn’t stop for a beer first. Jenn and Chris’ New Hope engagement session was a blast! We started at the Weyerbacher Brewery before wandering the adorable streets of New Hope, talking about their upcoming 2020 wedding. The happy couple decided on the brand new (not even open yet) River House at Odette’s for their venue.

These two are about as genuine as you can get. They were silly, happy and goofing off at every opportunity and they swore that only one picture would actually turn out nice! I disagreed and loved the fun energy they brought to their session. I’m so excited to get to hang out with them again on their wedding day!

Northern Liberties Engagement Session

By | Engagements | No Comments

Fun fact – when couples inquire for wedding photography and we set up a phone call instead of meeting in person I get terrified before their engagement photos! So for whatever reason, I was so afraid to meet Erica and Jason for their Northern Liberties engagement session! But that fear was gone within minutes because they are so kind, down-to-earth, and fun to hang out with. We started their session at Penn Treaty Park where Jason proposed and then wandered the neighborhood! We stopped at the Fillmore, Piazza, and even walked by their future wedding venue – Cescape Ballroom! It was such a nice, relaxing, and chill session. I can’t imagine their wedding day will be any different and I am now super pumped for their day this coming May!
