Weddings these days

By | Weddings | No Comments

A good marriage isn’t something you find, it’s something you make, and you have to keep on making it.

Can we all just take a minute to appreciate the good in the world? People are vowing to love each other and stay together through it all, every single day. What I love about weddings is that couples can have a completely traditional and beautiful ceremony or they can do anything they want and at the end of the day all that matters is that two people decided to make it official and promise to be there through everything. This post is here just to appreciate all of the different ceremonies I have had the honor of photographing. Some were religious and held in churches, others were still religious and held at their venues. Others were officiated by friends, and one in particular had no officiant at all! What is amazing is that couples are identifying what works for the two of them and running with it.

I remember my mom telling me about her wedding day and saying that my grandmom judged her flower choice because she chose to have some pale pink flowers blooms in her bouquet, going against the traditional all-white floral standard. My mom and dad celebrated 50 years of marriage this past year so yes, this was a long time ago, but just think of all of the choices couples can have now! I know it can be overwhelming but it’s kind of amazing at the same time. No two weddings are the same just like no two couples are the same. And you get to celebrate exactly how you want! Don’t apologize for having a small wedding, or a huge wedding, or being a little “extra”. You do you and go enjoy the shit out of it!

Cherry Street Pier Engagement Session

By | Engagements | No Comments

I met Allison & Eamon at their apartment in Old City to start their engagement session before heading down to Cherry Street Pier for some spontanteous photos and ice cream. Our initial walk around Old City led us through this gorgeous golden light on our way to Allison’s favorite tree. After a quick outfit change and dropping the pup off back at home, we made our way to Cherry Street Pier. This was my first time at the new venue and I immediately fell in love! Not only is the space the perfect balance of industrial design, art, and color, but the happy couple bought me ice cream, which is a win in my book! I can’t wait to see Allison and Eamon again for their September wedding at another one of my favorite locations  – the Reading Terminal Market! Until then, enjoy these warm and romantic engagement photos from their spring time session.

Laurel Creek Country Club Wedding

By | Uncategorized, Weddings | No Comments

When you bond with a bride over a shared love of spreadsheets and organization you know the wedding is going to go off without a hitch. Brooke and Eddie’s Laurel Creek Country Club wedding was exactly as we planned and maybe even better. The timeline of the day moved so smoothly even with the unexpected hiccup of it also being Treasure Day in Riverton. For those of you not from the area, Treasure Day is a townwide yard sale that folks take very seriously. Treasure Day is one of many events Riverton holds to raise funds for their epic 4th of July celebration. A small portion of Treasure Day also took place in the church parking lot! Luckily by the time we arrived for the ceremony the tables and shoppers had gone, but not too early – because our groom scored a sweet Christmas ornament from a yard sale just across from the church!

Everything from the sun, to the perfectly placed clouds making family portraits simple, to the light rain in the evening that made for a few amazing nighttime portraits, worked out in our favor. I also admit that working with an excellent video time was the icing on the cake! Mike and Ted are wonderful people and I was so excited when Brooke and Eddie decided to hire them! Not only do they create amazing videos for their clients but these two gentlemen are some of the most generous people I know. For the past two years a group of photographers and myself have adopted families for Christmas and cooked dinners for families staying at the Ronald McDonald house. Mike and Ted are the first to volunteer or generously donate to these causes!

Thank you Brooke and Eddie for having me photograph your amazing day! It was an honor. Congratulations on your marriage and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness!
