Reading Terminal Wedding

By | Weddings | No Comments

You wouldn’t think that a shorter wedding day would result in so many photos but when you have a couple that is just happy to be together, to be with their friends and family, and happy to enjoy their lives, you can’t help but over-photograph things! Lauren & Jeff’s Reading Terminal wedding didn’t exactly go off without a hitch but they were always positive, pleasant, and kind! Even after a mishap on my end (reserved tickets for the Magic Gardens on the wrong day!) they were ready to go with the flow and move on to Plan B, which ended up working out better than our intial plan would have anyway! No wonder their family and friends love them so much.

The day started with Lauren getting ready with her mom in the couple’s apartment in Philly. From there we went to the first look location at the Magic Gardens where unfortunately, Jeff couldn’t get in because I reserved tickets from the wrong day ::insert facepalm here::. Instead, Lauren and Jeff did their first look right out front where we could still take photos in front of the murals. We also were lucky enough to be able to use other murals in the area. Then we moved to beers at Dirty Frank’s which was one of their first date locations! After that trip down memory lane we walked to Broad Street for the iconic shot in front of city hall where we were joined by an elderly gentleman. As I stood back and took pictures, I imagined he was giving them excellent marriage advice but apparently I think he was trying to sell something to them!

Shortly after photos at City Hall we met up with family and did portraits. Then it was off to the ceremony and receptions at Reading Terminal Market! The ceremony was officiated by one close friend and another sang a beautiful solo. The couple toasted with coors light in remembrance of Lauren’s dad and gave a beautiful speech thanking everyone, and reminiscing about the first time they met. Then everyone just danced the night away! It was an honor to be a part of this wedding and a true honor to know Lauren and Jeff! Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Weddings these days

A good marriage isn’t something you find, it’s something you make, and you have to keep on making it.

Can we all just take a minute to appreciate the good in the world? People are vowing to love each other and stay together through it all, every single day. What I love about weddings is that couples can have a completely traditional and beautiful ceremony or they can do anything they want and at the end of the day all that matters is that two people decided to make it official and promise to be there through everything. This post is here just to appreciate all of the different ceremonies I have had the honor of photographing. Some were religious and held in churches, others were still religious and held at their venues. Others were officiated by friends, and one in particular had no officiant at all! What is amazing is that couples are identifying what works for the two of them and running with it.

I remember my mom telling me about her wedding day and saying that my grandmom judged her flower choice because she chose to have some pale pink flowers blooms in her bouquet, going against the traditional all-white floral standard. My mom and dad celebrated 50 years of marriage this past year so yes, this was a long time ago, but just think of all of the choices couples can have now! I know it can be overwhelming but it’s kind of amazing at the same time. No two weddings are the same just like no two couples are the same. And you get to celebrate exactly how you want! Don’t apologize for having a small wedding, or a huge wedding, or being a little “extra”. You do you and go enjoy the shit out of it!
