This New York City engagement session topped off one crazy “vacation” week for me. I use the term vacation loosely because while I took off from my day job (did you all know I have a day job? I do and it’s pretty cool but very different from photography), I had a full week of shoots and vacation-esque activities planned.
Day one of my vacation involved heading to the Big Apple for this lovely engagement session! Now if you haven’t caught on yet, I am obsessed with big cities. I love the architecture and that amazing feeling when you really think about how people, like you and me, built something so incredible. When Carrie asked if I would go to New York to photograph their engagement session there was no doubt in my mind that I would do it.
Carrie & Pat are seriously an amazing couple. Smart, down-to-earth, and all-around awesome people. The day of their session was HOT and muggy and just plain gross. Can you tell? Nope! They were awesome to work with and didn’t complain once about the heat and instead made jokes about it!
We started here at the Highlines Park. The elevated railway was a bit more narrow than I imagined but we were able to make some cool photos along the side stairwells and also when the crowds thinned out for a few seconds.
After leaving the Highlines we walked to La Colombe for a pick-me-up and outfit change!
This area used to be a train station in the meatpacking district but has been renovated to include La Colombe and some other shops. It is closed on the weekends so we were able to take advantage of the free space and air conditioning!
Since I had to head back to my bus by a certain time in order to make it home, we decided to continue our walk, mimicking one of the walks Pat & Carrie would take around their neighborhood together. We considered walking along the Hudson River but the sun was still pretty high and I wasn’t confident we would get great photos there. We tried to stop into the Javits Center but were quickly told that we couldn’t take photos there. Luckily just around the corner was this cute little park which barely had any crowds!
It also had a great view! Although when you’re in New York, are you ever without an amazing view?
I also want to note that I didn’t pose them like this, they just sat down and I told them to get comfortable – how adorable are they??
And finishing the session with one last city backdrop…
Carrie and Patrick are getting married in March 2019 at Hotel Du Village in Pennsylvania. I can’t want to see what their wedding day has in store!
And while I’m not going to share posts from my “vacation” which included a short trip to Longport, NJ for some relaxation on the beach, and a slightly longer trip to North Carolina to visit my in-laws, I will eventually be sharing one epic styled shoot at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts!
